Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) is a measurement of antioxidant power. Higher ORAC values may contain greater antioxidant power. †

 

What are antioxidants? What do they do?

Antioxidants are nutrients that combat oxidative damage caused by free radicals, which are produced when our body cells use oxygen. Oxidative damage may contribute to a variety of health concerns, including aging, disease and weight gain. †

 

What is 5 HTP?

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a substance that is created naturally in the body from amino acids and in turn is used by the body to produce serotonin (a neurotransmitter found in the brain that is considered essential for relaxation, sleep, and concentration). †

 

What is Acai?

Acai is a nutrient-rich berry, leading in Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) value due to its high level of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that help support various systems of the body by blocking destructive oxidation reactions that are harmful to the body.

 Acai may provide essential nutrients such as vitamins B1, B2, B3, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and high concentrations of antioxidants such as vitamin C, E, and anthocyanins. †

 

What is Alpha Lipoic Acid?

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a fat-soluble, vitamin-like substance that works along with certain B vitamins in the metabolism of carbohydrates and other nutrients to produce energy.  Alpha Lipoic Acid may provide valuable benefits to those suffering from glaucoma, diabetes and diabetic neuropathy by supporting healthy blood sugar levels.

What is DHEA?

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands and is converted into other steroid hormones that stimulate the male and female sex hormones; it begins to decrease after age 30.

DHEA may combat Alzheimer’s disease by supporting mental alertness, memory, and balanced mood. It may also help prevent multiple sclerosis and arterial disease by enhancing the immune system. †

 

Why should I take Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects against oxidative damage throughout the body and may also enhance the immune system. It is needed in the formation of collagen, which is essential to connective tissue, cartilage, bone matrix, tooth dentin, skin and tendons, which may delay the aging process. †

 

What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects the body from harmful chemicals that are released when the body converts food into energy. As an antioxidant, Vitamin E prevents cell damage by inhibiting oxidation of fats and formation of free radicals, which may damage cells. Vitamin E may also act as a blood thinner to facilitate circulation and flow.

Vitamin E deficiencies may result in red blood cell damage, nerve destruction, neuromuscular impairment, retina damage, male and female infertility, miscarriage and menstruation problems. †

 

I often feel joint pain. Is Glucosamine right for me?

 Glucosamine is a natural molecule found in joint cartilage in high concentrations, which stimulate cartilage repair by preventing enzymes such as collagenase and phospholipase A2 from damaging cartilage and the generation of cell-damaging super oxide radicals, which may harm joint cartilage.

Glucosamine is involved in the formation of skin, eyes, nails, tendons, bones, ligaments and heart valves. It also facilitates mucus secretion of the urinary tract, respiratory and digestive systems. Can Inositol reduce hair loss?

Inositol is also known as Vitamin B-8, which has been commonly used for hair growth and may assist the body in lecithin formation. Inositol is vital for hair growth.

This vitamin has a calming effect and may reduce cholesterol levels. It may prevent hardening of the arteries and is important in the formation of lecithin and the metabolism of fat and cholesterol. Inositol may also support healthy liver response and function by removing fat from the liver.

Deficiencies may lead to arteriosclerosis, constipation, hair loss, high blood cholesterol, irritability, mood swings, and skin eruptions. †

I have trouble sleeping at night. Will Melatonin help me?

Melatonin may regulate circadian rhythm by chemically lowering body temperature and creating drowsiness, which may provide support for sleep disorders and result in energy boost and mood regulation.

Melatonin may also improve immune systems. Melatonin is pineal hormone, and may act as an efficient free radical scavenger and sinlet oxygen quencher, which is an oxygen molecule whose excessive discharge of energy may cause damage to the other body of molecules. Melatonin may permeate any cell in any part of the body, as opposed to common antioxidants who work in specific areas of the body. Noni is the common name for morinda citrifolia, a tropical fruit found in the Pacific Islands that is commonly used for its health benefits. Noni contains high phytonutrients, polysaccharides, catechins, flavanoids, beta sitosterol and antioxidants that are traditionally known to support various systems of the body, and promote a healthy lifestyle. †

 

What is Beta-sitosterol?

Beta-sitosterol is a compound found in plants that is chemically similar in structure to cholesterol; high levels are found in saw palmetto, pumpkin seed, and pygeum. Beta-sitosterol may exert cholesterol-lowering activity; however its main role is related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and may promote prostate health. †

 

What is Aloe Vera?

Aloe vera is known for its healing effects in cosmetic and hair care products. It is commonly known as a skin healer, moisturizer, and softener, and commonly used for skin burns, cuts, bruises, poison ivy, and eczema. Sea vegetables offer the broadest range of minerals, including minerals found in the ocean, which is also found in human blood. My doctor says I get sick often because my immune system is weak. Can I take Echinacea?

Echinacea may enhance immune system activity by stimulating white blood cell action, which protects the body against foreign organisms and as a result, may reduce the duration and strength of cold and flu symptoms. It is commonly used for allergies, colds, and infectious illnesses, which may support immune and emphatic systems. †

 

What is Selenium?

Selenium is a component of the enzyme, glutathione peroxidase, a vital antioxidant that may protect the body by preventing oxidation by free radicals. Selenium may support immune system function via detoxification, and may also support male fertility. Low levels of selenium may be linked to cardiovascular disease and inflammatory disease. †

 

I have high cholesterol. Can I take Policosanol?

Policosanol describes a chain of saturated alcohols, which is derived from waxes in plants such as sugar cane, yams, and beeswax. The main alcohol in policosanol is octacosanol.

Policosanol may regulate cholesterol production in the liver by improving the liver’s absorption of LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase levels of HDL (good cholesterol). Policosanol may also protect blood vessels by preventing its destruction by oxidized LDL. †

 

 

What is Pycnogenol made of?

Pycnogenol is derived from the bark of Pinus Martima, a European coastal pine. Pycnogenol extract is a powerful antioxidant, and may act as a natural anti-flammatory, bind collagen and elastin, and may aid in the dilution of blood vessels to promote circulation and flow. †

 

My doctor recommended Red Yeast Rice, what is it?

Red yeast rice is created by fermenting a strain of red yeast on rice and contains several monacolins, which are substances known to reduce overall cholesterol production. As a dietary supplement, red yeast rice may reduce overall blood cholesterol levels and improve the ratio of HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol). †

 

What is SAM-e?

S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine (SAM-e) is a sulfur that naturally distributes throughout the body to contribute to maintaining mood levels and other healthy benefits; its levels decrease as people age. SAM-E is involved in the creation of RNA and DNA, melatonin and other essential proteins, and may regulate mood. SAM-E may also provide support for depression, liver disorders, arthritis, osteo-arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint pain, and hormonal balance. †

 

What is Co-Q10?

Co-Q10 belongs to a group of compounds that are involved in the electron transportation and energy production in the cell's mitochondria, and may act as a cardio-protective antioxidant to promote cardiovascular health.  †

 

Does Ginkgo Biloba make you smarter?

Gingko biloba may improve brain function by increasing cerebral and peripheral circulation and tissue oxygenation. It also contains antioxidant properties and may be beneficial for asthma, depression, headaches, memory loss, and tinnitus (ringing sensation in ear). Gingko Biloba may be used for vascular impotence in men. Lecithin is a type of lipid that is needed by every living cell in the body. The protective sheaths surrounding the brain are composed of lecithin, and may improve brain function. †

 

What is Yohimbe?

Yohimbe is a tree that grows in Africa and Mexico and may increase blood flow to genital tissue in both men and women, and has traditionally been used as an aphrodisiac and sexual rejuvenator. †
